“As a young child in November of 1939, my parents were on a trip, and I went to stay with my grandparents for a while. In those days [at Riverview], there was no central heat, electricity, or indoor bathrooms. I was never uncomfortable there. There were coal fires, kerosene lamps, and water warmed on the stove in the kitchen and brought up to our bedrooms. To me it seemed very special, a little scary, and really splendid all at the same time.”
–George Anna Duncan McKenzie, great-granddaughter of Atwood and Julia Hobson
Twilight Tours: Nearly 90 years later, the old Hobson House remains “really splendid,” and we want to share it with you. Join us for five opportunities later this year to see the mansion after hours. If you have not seen the home after our recent restorations or have lived in the area all your life and never visited, these tours are for you!
Regular Tours: Fridays – July 10, September 11, and November 6, 5:30pm-8pm. No reservations required. $10 adults/$5 children, paid at the door. Tour guides will be stationed in each room of the home to explain how the space was used and answer your questions.
Restoration Story: Friday, August 7, 5:30pm-8pm. No reservations required. $10 adults/$5 children, paid at the door. We will share photographs of the home prior to restoration and explain how the abandoned structure escaped the wrecking ball.
The Art of Riverview: Friday, October 2. Reservations required on Eventbrite.com. $25 per person. Use QR code below. Limited spaces are available for tours offered at 5:30pm and 6:30pm.
