It’s a horse’s world at Rainhill Equine Facility

If this is the first time you have picked up a copy of SOKY Happenings, congratulations! You have made a wise choice. This free publication is widely distributed in South Central Kentucky, giving over 10,000 readers access to people, places and events in this beautiful area. Now, if this all sounds like a glowing endorsement, IT IS!

My name is Karen Thurman and I own and operate Rainhill Equine Facility, an equine rescue/sanctuary on Hwy. 185. I have operated this 501c3 organization for almost forty years, giving life-long homes to disabled horses. For almost a decade, SOKY Happenings has donated space in their lovely magazine. I am always amazed and totally delighted when I get a donation from an out-of-state traveler who just happened to pick up the publication. And why wouldn’t they? Their very attractive front page is always an eye-catcher. Its pages are full of stories, events and great places to see and shop. And, it’s free! A winning combination for everyone.

Now, if you’re wondering what this is all leading to, let me tell you. I received a donation to sponsor one of our horses from a lady who lives in Florida. She asked if she could visit Rainhill the next time she was in Bowling Green. I wrote her back and told her it would be my pleasure to meet her. This week she called and said she and her husband were in town, could they come over?  Well, we had a wonderful visit. Sharon and her husband were delightful guests and the horses were especially impressed, as they can tell when people really like them!

Now, if it wasn’t for SOKY Happenings, I never would have met these kind folks. Everyone who knows of Rainhill and is aware of our love of the “imperfect horse” is touched by these amazing animals. I have met so many wonderful, caring people through my work to help these horses – I am truly humbled by their love and generosity.

As we begin a New Year, let us all try a little kindness, a little love and a whole lot of understanding for those who are different.

Please remember that we are a 501c3 non-profit organization, all donations are tax-deductible. We have no paid employees. All money raised goes directly to feed and care for our 52 horses.

Stay well and safe. God bless!
