The joy of dressing

February, the month of love, ushers us closer to spring and renewal. If you have been suffering from the January “blues,” enter dopamine dressing – the wearing of joyful attire. Sometimes that is bright, colorful clothing, or really any garment that makes you feel better. Dopamine is a chemical released in the brain that makes you feel good. This spring is all about look-good, feel-good outfits.

Knitted and crocheted textures are a great way to elevate your leisurewear. You can pair a crocheted sweater with your favorite jeans for an instant update (extra points if you do a half-tuck with cropped, wide-leg denim). Matching knitwear is versatile from run-around to cocktail. Chunky sweater knit tanks make great layering pieces.

Bold, brave brights are where it’s at. The strongest comeback – Kelly green and hot pink. Lilly Pulitzer fits in perfectly. You can do head-to-toe monochromatic bright, color block or add your favorite Lilly print. How can you have a bad day if you are wearing Lilly?

Bright colors just not you? That’s OK, remember we are dressing to feel good. This year’s neutrals are rich shades of vanilla, cocoa, sage and khaki. Oversized suits in natural tones graced the runways – dress it up or down – tank top and tennis shoes for casual – blouse and stilettos for more serious events.

I know you have heard of the little black dress, but this year make it white. It’s time to lighten up – literally and figuratively.

Guess what else is back – the maxi. It is the ultimate in comfort – it’s like wearing your nightgown all day.

Spring 2022 is all about finding the joy in everyday things – starting with what we wear. This year you can be wild and adventurous or basic as can be. It’s not about what’s in or out – it is about what makes you feel good on any given day.
