It’s a horse’s world

Next year will be Rainhill’s 40th anniversary. I know it sounds like a long time, but really it isn’t. I look around every day at all that has changed in those years. I remember my 31-year-old self seeing this land for the first time and feeling an instant love and connection to this place. I saw the hill where my home now sits and imagined the porch where I would stand and survey the barns surrounded by happy, grazing horses. The last forty years have been filled with countless hours of hard work, both here and at the jobs I worked in town.

Rainhill has brought many horses into my life, and many people, also. People move on, horses pass away. Gone but never forgotten. Each animal and person I have met has left a little bit of themselves with me. A small memory sometimes, but even the smallest memory can bring a smile to my face.

Animal lovers are a special breed of human. It seems we all think just about the same when it comes to animal welfare. People who love horses are especially devoted and enthusiastic about these magnificent creatures. We love their velvety muzzles, the sounds they make, the grace and beauty as they run – we love it all!

Last week I had a visit from one of Rainhill’s long-time supporters, Sandra Webb. She has sponsored Dreamer for many years and decided she’d like to sponsor another horse, also. Sandra picked Raje, the horse we featured last month. We could not be happier for Raje, and Dreamer, too! Caring for these horses is very expensive and these sponsorships really help lighten our load. Thank you, Sandra.

And thank you to everyone who has helped Rainhill through the years. Your donations are the reason we can help these unwanted horses by giving them a safe, long-term home in an uncertain world. Thirty-nine of our fifty horses are blind and were in really bad situations before they were brought here. No one wants a horse they can’t ride and so these unfortunate animals are thrown out like trash. Your donations make our work possible.

Please remember that Rainhill Equine Facility is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, all donations are tax-deductible. We have no paid employees. All money raised goes directly to the care and feeding of our precious horses.

There are many ways to help. We buy our grain at TSC and gift cards are always appreciated (our grain bill is a little over $500 a week). You can mail a check or use PayPal. No donation is too small.

Thanks for reading our little stories and God bless you for any help you may provide.
