“Making a way home…” House on the Hill

House on the Hill of Bowling Green, Kentucky is working hard to provide for families in need in the Warren County region. HOTH exists to provide food and housing first, for low- to moderate-income individuals and families in need within the community. Each HOTH initiative is designed to help families and individuals on a path to self-sustainability by giving them the tools and opportunities to get there. HOTH is board-directed and volunteer run. Their board members, as well as the volunteers who serve, are not monetarily compensated. House on the Hill does what they do to see people and families restored. They operate through the generosity of others and the partnerships built within the communities they serve.

The organization has been providing food for the last two-and-a-half years to families in need during the pandemic and through this period of inflation.

Next Phase Impact…

HOTH is setting its sights on the goal of providing housing to those in need within the next year or so. HOTH is working to build community in a supported-living development where anyone can live. The supported-living community provides simple supports at varying levels, so each individual or family is moving towards stability in safe, adequate housing, work and community life. Those living in the community have access to a central community center with laundry, commercial kitchen, outdoor gathering area with grills and fire pits, community gardens, walking trails and more. When we hear the term homeless, we tend to think of a person living on the street. Unhoused individuals and families come from many different backgrounds and situations. Some people are considered homeless because they are living with family or couch-surfing from one friend to the next. Homelessness looks different for different people in different situations. Some homeless people may have mental health issues which keep them from holding or even getting a job. Some homeless people are the working poor who work hard but can’t make ends meet. The supported-living community becomes a place where all these individuals and families can live together with different supports each one needs to be stable and safe. This 8-10 acre development will take approximately $5 million to get started, providing 80-plus homes and housing units to our community.

It’s a House Party…

During their big event on May 20, 2023 at The Green Amphitheater at the SOKY Marketplace in downtown Bowling Green, the organization is hosting a “House Party” to raise awareness for the need for housing in the region as well as raise money to begin providing housing. This late-afternoon event from 5pm-8pm will include crafts and inflatables for children with an armband purchase and other free activities as well as LIVE music, food and ways to support House on the Hill in their efforts to provide for individuals and families in need. Your family will want to participate in this event. It’s fun for the whole family.
