Franklin gets festive for the holidays

The spirit of Christmas is alive and rockin’ in Franklin, Ky., this season! Franklin will be Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree with several events to get you in the holiday spirit during December.

Festivities will kick off with a little Christmas magic on December 6 and 7 with magician Brian Staron at the Roxy Theater. Staron, who

worked as a performer with Walt Disney Entertainment for over a decade, brings his magical show to the historic Roxy Theater for two nights. Staron’s sense of humor and amazing magic skills will entertain audiences of every age. He continues to work with Walt Disney Entertainment Productions and Special Events. Staron has performed at the World Famous Magic Castle in Los Angeles, show rooms in Las Vegas, various theaters around the country and on several cruise ships, which have literally taken his show around the world. Staron is currently contracted with Crystal Cruise Lines as part of their “Magic Castle at Sea” program, a very prestigious performance venue featuring select magicians. Most recently, he has performed throughout Europe, China, South Korea, Japan, and South Africa.

Tickets are available at the Gallery on the Square at 110 North Main Street in Franklin, online at www.franklinsimpsonarts.org, or at the door. Adults are $10 and children are $6.

We hope you have all been good this year because SANTA will be in town on Saturday, December 8 for the Franklin-Simpson Renaissance Small Town Christmas and Kiwanis Club of Franklin-Simpson Christmas Parade. Small Town Christmas will begin at 11 a.m. on the lawn of the Simpson County Courthouse. Face painters, children’s crafts, hot chocolate and cookies will be part of the fun as you wait for the Christmas parade to begin. Santa will arrive at noon to visit with children.

Shoppers should get downtown early and shop at the 8th Annual Hometown Holiday Craft Bazaar sponsored by the Simpson County 4H from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church on the square. A variety of vendors will be on hand at the bazaar and lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The many shops and boutiques in downtown Franklin will be open at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning with something for everyone on your Christmas shopping list! Be sure to shop local and shop Franklin KY.

The 2018 Christmas Parade will begin at 1 p.m. with dancing in the streets. Official parade emcees will introduce the parade entrees as they pass by the historic Simpson County Courthouse on Main Street. The main stage will be set up in front of the Gallery on the Square for the televised event. When the parade is over, the party will move the bandstand on the courthouse lawn for the lighting of the community Christmas tree and a musical presentation by the Franklin-Simpson Community Arts Council. The parade winners will be announced on the bandstand during this presentation.

We will wrap up the day of Christmas cheer at the annual F-S Community Arts Council free Christmas concert of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” at 7 p.m. at the Roxy Theater at 109 South Main Street. The Arts Council gifts the community each year with a musical presentation of local artists and different genres of music. There is limited seating inside the Roxy Theater, so get there early!
