Savory summer offerings at SoKY Marketplace

Summer is quickly approaching! As the temperatures rise and the days lengthen, our farmers are busy growing all of your favorite local fruits and vegetables. SoKY Marketplace is bustling with vendors who have all of your fresh fruits, vegetables, sweet and savory treats, meats, locally roasted coffee, handmade crafts and more! As we look into June, you can expect blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, greens, kale, kohlrabi, lettuce, okra, green onions, mulberries, radishes, raspberries, strawberries, squash, tomatoes, and turnips to be in season.

If you haven’t been down to the SoKY Marketplace, June is the time to check it out! Located in downtown Bowling Green at the pavilion behind SKyPAC and Bowling Green Ballpark, the Marketplace a great spot for the community to shop directly from local producers who are growing and making products right here in South Central Kentucky.

The Marketplace is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Make sure to buy tickets for our first Farm to Table dinner on June 21 starting at 5:30pm under the SoKY Marketplace Pavilion. This will be an amazing night of food and fun. We have local Chef Michael Broyles cooking our appetizer, main course and dessert with all local meats, vegetables and fruit. We will also have wine from Reid’s Winery and Crocker Winery. We will also have a cooking demo outside by Chef Michael Riggs. Local farms include ATP Greenhouse, Sunny Point Gardens, Jackson’s Orchard, Simple Greens, Van Buren Market and many more! Tickets are on sale now at the market or online. Visit our website sokymarketplace.org for further details.

Thursday, June 28, is our SoKY Marketplace Night Market! We will have music and vendors at the pavilion from 3 to 8 p.m. If you work in Bowling Green, stop by on your way home to get some produce for the weekend, and stay a while for the music!

Saturday, June 2, is our Chef at the Market cooking demo! The focus of June at our market is greens. We will be joined by a local chef for a cooking demo that will include ingredients you can get that day at the market. Make sure to be there by 11 a.m. to watch and be inspired.

SoKY Sprouts Kids Club is back in full swing on second Saturdays, with the next date being June 9 at 10 a.m.! SoKY Sprouts is an educational program, created by the University of Kentucky Warren County Cooperative Extension Service, for children aged 5-13 that focuses on healthy eating and lifestyle habits. Sprouts registration is open to the first 20 kids who sign in, and each participant will be given SoKY Sprouts Vouchers to spend at the Marketplace!

School may be out for summer, but at the SoKY Marketplace, we are doing lots of reading! The Warren County Public Library will be at the Marketplace with their Pop-Up Libraries for the Summer Reading Program on June 16, June 30, July 14, and July 28. They will be providing library card registration, comic book and book freebies, movement activities, and STEAM activities, such as science experiments and crafts.

We encourage our South Central Kentucky community to come and join us this summer at the Marketplace!
