Community Education invites families from across South Central Kentucky to celebrate the 10th Annual Blockbusters at the Ballpark on Saturday, August 29, with an unforgettable evening under the stars at Bowling Green Ballpark. This year’s opening feature, A Minecraft Movie, will light up the biggest screen in Bowling Green while supporting programs that benefit children, teens, and families throughout Warren County.
Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, Blockbusters at the Ballpark has become a beloved community tradition, combining blockbuster entertainment with the unique experience of watching a movie inside the Bowling Green Hot Rods’ stadium. With this year’s theme, “Movies, Memories, and the Magic of the Ballpark,” the event continues to bring families together while raising vital funds to support Community Education’s mission.
Gates will open at 5pm, giving families plenty of time to enjoy the ballpark before the movie begins. A Minecraft Movie will begin at 6pm. If inclement weather forces a postponement, the rain date has been set for Saturday, October 3.
Admission is FREE, making the event accessible to families throughout the region. While there is no cost to attend, donations are gratefully accepted and directly support Community Education’s wide range of programs and services. Those include before- and after-school childcare, Teen Angel holiday assistance for local teens, Safe Seats | Safe Kids child passenger safety inspections, children’s summer programs, adult enrichment classes, volunteer initiatives, and many other opportunities that strengthen the community.
Guests may enjoy the movie from the stadium’s comfortable box seats or bring a blanket to relax on the outfield grass (chairs are not permitted on the field). Before the movie, children can enjoy the playground and carousel, while the outfield offers plenty of space to toss a football or Frisbee. Concession stands will also be open throughout the evening (credit card purchases only).
Attendees are reminded that the Bowling Green Ballpark’s clear bag policy will be in effect during the event.
Although admission is free, Blockbusters at the Ballpark serves as Community Education’s largest annual fundraiser. Every dollar donated stays in the local community, helping provide affordable, high-quality educational opportunities and family programming that positively impact thousands of area residents each year.
The event is made possible through the generous support of local sponsors. WNKY returns as this year’s Diamond Sponsor. Community Education also extends its appreciation to the Bowling Green Hot Rods, Houchens Food Group, Houchens Insurance Group, and the many additional businesses and organizations whose generosity helps keep this event free for area families.
Whether it’s your first visit or you’ve attended all ten years, Blockbusters at the Ballpark promises an evening of family fun, community spirit, and unforgettable memories. Bring your blanket, gather your family and friends, and experience the magic of watching A Minecraft Movie beneath the lights of Bowling Green Ballpark. Then join us again on Saturday, September 19, as the 10th Annual Blockbusters at the Ballpark concludes with Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic.
