Kids on the Block Garden Tour & Tea presented by Wild Eggs

Saturday, June 24, 2023

It’s time for Kids on the Block’s 24th Annual Garden Tour and Tea, presented by Wild Eggs! Patrons tour lovely area gardens to marvel at the blooms our community has to offer. Following the tour, participants are treated to refreshments at our tea site at Baker Arboretum. This long-running fundraiser supports educational puppet programs in Kentucky and follows the gardening passions of Kids on the Block co-founder, Alice Kummer. Tickets may be purchased at Riley’s Bakery, Wild Eggs, Antique Mall at Flea Land, Wild Bird and Nature Store, and the Kids on the Block office.

Kids on the Block’s mission is to provide ongoing education and prevention through puppetry for children and the community at large. The core message in each program is to teach children acceptance of differences in themselves and in others. The troupe uses life-size puppets in the style of Bunraku puppetry.

In 2023 Kids on the Block has impacted 22,327 children by performing 183 programs in 26 Kentucky counties. Fifteen topics have been presented including Autism, Child Abuse, Accepting Differences, Mental Health, Problem Solving, Bullies and School Safety, Cyber Bullies, Vaping and Tobacco, Healthy Habits, Self Esteem, Water Safety, and Fire Safety.

Other Kids on the Block initiatives include a monthly Youth Board, week-long Summer Camp, three free kids’ runs, and owning a non-profit center called The Higgins Center for Nonprofits.
