Sky Vein & Aesthetics is pleased to introduce AviClear for the treatment of ACNE

Most people can remember waking up with an embarrassing zit on the day of a big event. I remember one of my sisters being horrified at her “third eye” that appeared the day of a big dinner. But for others, acne is a daily struggle that affects their self-confidence. For some, it is so severe it can cause social isolation and hinder their enjoyment of daily life.

Until now, the only treatment options were topicals or prescription medications – both of which cause unwanted side effects and cost lots of time and money. The FDA recently cleared the only energy-based device to treat mild to severe acne without unwanted side effects, blood tests, or ongoing doctor visits. Danny Harrison, MD is pleased to be the first in Kentucky to offer this option to patients.

What is AviClear and how does it work?

It is the only FDA-cleared energy device for the treatment of mild, moderate and severe acne. Engineered with a revolutionary 1726 nm wavelength that’s safe for all skin types, it selectively targets and suppresses oil-producing sebaceous glands, eliminating acne at the source, without the need for prescription medications, in three 30-minute treatment sessions.

Does AviClear really work?

In the clinical studies by AviClear with 104 patients with moderate to severe acne, 80% of AviClear patients saw at least half of their acne lesions resolve by three months post the third treatment. 87% saw at least half of their pimples clear at six months post treatment. Also, at six months out, patients saw a 93% reduction in deep nodules, which are very difficult to treat. What’s more, future breakouts were shorter and less severe. The clinical studies did not show any significant adverse events.

What happens during an AviClear treatment?

Men should shave prior to treatment. Your clean face will be degreased with acetone wipes, which is why patients are asked to discontinue retinoids for a couple of days prior. No numbing cream is applied, as it contains oil, which makes the laser’s target on oil less effective. The provider will wet the skin with gauge pads and remove the gauze just prior to the laser’s pass. You will apply sunscreen post-treatment.

How soon will you see results?

You should see results within 3-4 weeks of your third treatment, which are spaced 2-4 weeks apart, and will continue over time. Outcomes, of course, vary from patient to patient, but all treatments are done in a series of three. Some are happy after the first, most are better after the second, and for others it’s not until after the 3rd round they really notice a difference.

How long do results last?

The clinical trials found AviClear acne treatment results improve over time, with some patients reporting clear skin for up to two years. Since the treatment is new, duration is hard to predict. Booster treatments may be needed.

What are the side effects?

No significant side effects were shown in the trial, which found it to be safe, effective and well tolerated by patients. You may look inflamed and slightly swollen for up to two days following treatment. Some people experience a purging breakout effect, but that typically resolves within a few days.
