Love vintage? Come visit Becky Brooks Vintage in downtown Bowling Green!

Becky Brooks Vintage is about to celebrate one month of business on the square. We are excited to bring some funk and fun to the clothing options in the area. The shop features an eclectic assortment of styles from different decades. Primarily focused on women’s clothing, we also carry accessories, jewelry, home decor and menswear. We focus on the 50s-90s but always have room for a special piece.

A Bowling Green native, I have been picking, yard selling, and thrifting for as long as I can remember. I grew up doing it with my Nanna, with a little pocket money that she would set aside for me. We would plan our route from the newspaper classifieds. Even then, I loved the hunt.

After graduating from WKU and moving away, I fell in love with vintage pieces and developed my own sense of style. I loved the way a piece could take you to a time, a memory or even a movie I’d seen. Initially in vintage shopping, the first things I would be drawn to weren’t the fancy or sought-after items – they were pieces by Etienne Aigner, particularly his purses, that I remember my mom carrying. Kitten-heel and round-toe shoes that were staples in her wardrobe were also some of my favorite finds. Gradually, I have fine-tuned my eye for what I pick, as well.

As I delved more into it, my love for vintage only grew, especially as I moved to Brooklyn. Vintage was an affordable way for me to have a knockout item in a place where I was a small town girl in a big city. I am also a sentimental person. The pieces have stories and a life before you, whether I am luckily enough to hear theirs or not. It really is something irreplicable and that is something that I try to keep in mind as I pick items for the store. Each piece is hand-selected for the shop.

Named after my mom and my son, the store is dear to my heart. When it originally began to get some traction, I would always envision it as a brick and mortar store here in Bowling Green, even when I wasn’t here and had no plans to live here. Life is funny like that, and I’ve been back almost two years, a Seattle man and a little boy in tow. The 19th of May will mark one month since the opening on the square with one of my dearest friends, Brandy Tucker, beside me. And isn’t life sweet! Please pop in to see Brandy or myself. We’d love to meet you.
