Kids on the Block Pound the Pavement

The 7th Annual Scotty’s Pound the Pavement will be held August 17 at Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green. This event is the largest kids run in south central Kentucky and is free to all children. Every child receives a shirt, goodie bag, and a finisher’s medal. The event is open to all preschool, elementary, and middle school aged children. Children under 6 years of age can participate in the 1/2 K race, elementary school children can participate in the 2K race, and middle school children can participate in the 3K race. School run teams have the opportunity to participate as well as individual runners. Trophies will be awarded to the top five boys and girls from each age category, and every child who crosses the finish line will receive a finishers’ medal. Mascots from various local businesses will be standing near the finish line cheering the kids on. 

Onsite registration is from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. The first race will begin at 8 a.m.

Other top sponsors include Houchens Insurance Group, Brandeis Machinery, Whayne Supply Company, BG Tire, and Martin Marietta. All proceeds from this event go towards Kids on the Block and the continuation of free educational programs for schools, camps, boys and girls clubs, and day cares in south central Kentucky. Scotty’s Contracting and Stone is Kids on the Block’s largest corporate sponsor. The controller of Scotty’s, Sherri Emberton, also serves as the Board Assistant Treasurer and as the chair of the annual golf scramble. 

Points for Puppets tournament supports Kids on the Block

                  The 2nd Annual South Central Bank Points for Puppets Tennis Tournament will take place on Saturday, August 17, and Sunday, August 18, in Bowling Green. The event will be held at Greenwood High School and Warren Central High School. It is part of the Central Kentucky Tennis Series and is also open to the general public. Every player will receive a shirt and goodie bag.
