Camp Loucon – Top ten reasons to attend summer camp

Spend some time at a summer camp and you’ll know the amazing, positive impact a week away from home can have on a camper. For those of you who didn’t attend camp as a child, you may not realize why so many parents are committed to sending their kids to camp. We at Loucon have put together the top ten reasons to send your kids to summer camp, (Camp Loucon Edition). Drumroll, please…

  1. Campers experience success and become more confident – Camp helps kids build self-confidence and esteem by removing the academic and social competition that shapes their lives at school. With diverse opportunities to succeed, camp life is a real boost for young people. There’s accomplishment every day. Camp teaches kids that they can.

  1. Kids spend their days being active – As children spend so much time inside and mostly sitting down at school, camp provides a wonderful opportunity to get out and move! Running, swimming, jumping, hiking, climbing! Camp is action!

  1. They develop life-long skills – Camps provide the instruction, equipment, and facilities for kids to enhance their abilities, talents, and skills. The sheer variety of activities offered at camp makes it easy for kids to discover and develop what they like to do. Camp expands every child’s abilities.

  1. Campers gain resilience – The kind of encouragement and nurture kids receive at camp makes it a great environment to endure setbacks, try new things, and see that growth comes when you give something another try. Camp helps conquer fears.

  1. We unplug from technology – When kids take a break from screens, they rediscover their creative powers and engage with the world; real people, real activities, and real emotions. They realize there’s always plenty to do. Camp is vibrant!

  1. Youth grow more independent – Camp is the perfect place for kids to practice making decisions for themselves. Managing their daily choices in the safe, caring environment of camp, children welcome this as a freedom to blossom in new directions. Camp helps kids develop who they are.

  1. They have free time for unstructured play – Free from the overly-structured, overly-scheduled routines of home and school, life at camp gives children much needed free time to play. Camp is a place of carefree living where kids can relax, laugh, and be silly all day. At camp we play!

  1. Campers reconnect with nature – Camp is a wonderful antidote to the narrow experience of modern indoor life. Outdoor experiences enrich kids’ perception of the world and supports healthy child development. Camp gets kids back outside.

  1. We teach social  kills – Coming to camp means joining a community where everyone must agree to cooperate and respect each other. When they live in a cabin with others, kids share space, resolve disagreements, and see firsthand the importance of sincere communication. Camp builds teamwork.

  1. Provides a place to make true friends – Camp is the place where kids make their very best friends. Free from the social expectations pressuring them at school, camp encourages kids to relax and make friends easily. All the fun at camp draws everyone together – singing, laughing, talking, playing, and doing almost everything together. Every day, camp creates friendships.

We believe that camp enriches a child’s life. For campers grades 2-12, Loucon provides a safe place to grow personally, socially, and spiritually. Check out Camp Loucon at Loucon.org if you think summer camp is right for your kids!
