Celebrate Library Card Sign Up Month

September is National Library Card Sign Up Month, and we want to celebrate with YOU! A library card from WCPL is your ticket to a world of resources, with perks galore! With a library card, you gain immediate FREE access to many incredible resources. Here are a few:

Warren County Public Library Used Book Sale
  1. Books: We have books of all types for all ages! Check out books and audiobooks from our physical collection, or download ebooks and eaudiobooks through Libby or hoopla Digital.
  2. Movies: We circulate DVDs and Blu-rays as well as provide access to Kanopy and hoopla Digital that allows users to stream films.
  3. Music: We circulate CDs in a variety of genres. Albums are also available for checkout in hoopla.
  4. Games: We recently added Nintendo Switch cartridges to our collections at the Lisa Rice Library and the Bob Kirby Branch.
  5. Technology: We have internet accessible personal computers and laptops for in-house use as well as Wi-Fi at all of our locations. Need to print something? You can also get five free black and white printouts or 1 color printout per day!
  6. A seed library: Check out up to five seed packets per day. We invite folks to contribute seeds back to the collection when they have a harvest!
  7. A collection of things: We circulate useful non-traditional items like sewing machines, ukuleles, activity kits, and digital scanners, among other “things!”
  8. Databases: From online family history records to peer-reviewed research, our online tools help you access reliable information for school, work, or pleasure.

To apply for a card, visit any library location with your valid photo ID (non-expired driver’s license, passport, or government issued photo ID). You will fill out an application with current contact information, a staff member will create your library card on the spot, and you can begin using it immediately! There is a two-week checkout with multiple renewals for most items. While we don’t charge overdue fines (cool right?!?), we do charge for items that are returned damaged or excessively overdue.

Check Out These Awesome Opportunities for Aspiring Authors

The library loves encouraging both reading and writing! To that end, writers in the making won’t want to miss an upcoming workshop at the Bob Kirby Branch with Kristy Cambron entitled To Pitch or Not to Pitch: The Art of Acing Your Next Agent Meeting. On Wednesday, September 18, at 6pm, participants can join Cambron, a bestselling author and literary agent, for an interactive workshop about the art of the pitch. She will go through the steps of making a pitch session powerful enough to stand out and kickstart an author career.

Another not-to-miss opportunity will take place at the Capitol on Friday, September 20, at 6pm. Read more about what panelists will discuss at “Cultivating Connections: Navigating the Writing Life” in the article on the adjacent page! It will precede the premiere of the library’s Back To Back Books festival, scheduled for Saturday, September 21. Information about that event can also be found in the Capitol’s article, or you can access all the details and register for the day online at warrenpl.org/b2b).

Bargains Galore at the FOL Used Book Sale

Book lovers, bargain hunters, and treasure seekers have much to look forward to this month! The Bob Kirby Branch Library will be a hub of activity in mid-September when the Friends of the Library hosts its annual Used Book Sale at 175 Iron Skillet Way beginning September 12. Thursday night’s preview sale (4pm to 8pm) is for FOL members only, but anyone can apply for membership on site. The sale will continue Friday and Saturday (9am to 5pm) featuring great prices on books, DVDs, CDs, games, and puzzles. The sale will conclude Sunday (1pm to 5pm), when everything that’s left will be sold for $1 per bag. Please note that there will be a temporary pause in accepting donations from the end of August through Wednesday, September 18, so that volunteers can have time and space to set up and take down the event.

Keep up with everything going on at the library by following us on social media (Facebook, Instagram, and X) or by signing up for our online newsletter, accessible at tinyurl.com/WCPLNews and also through the link on our home page (warrenpl.org).
