This fall, Logan County will once again come together for one of its most anticipated traditions, the Logan County Tobacco & Heritage Festival, set for September 26 through October 10, 2026. This year’s theme, “Patriots and Pioneers: Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom and 70 Years of Tradition,” makes the celebration especially meaningful as our community joins the nation in commemorating America’s 250th anniversary while honoring the people, traditions and stories that have shaped Logan County.
Hosted by the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, the Tobacco & Heritage Festival has long been considered Logan County’s biggest homecoming. Each year, thousands of people participate in or attend festival activities, bringing together current residents, former Logan Countians and visitors from across Kentucky and beyond. For many families, Festival time is a tradition passed from one generation to the next. Parents bring their children to events they attended growing up, grandparents share favorite traditions with grandchildren, and former residents plan trips home around Parade Day.
The history of the Festival stretches back to 1941, when the first celebration was held as a one-day event centered around Russellville’s town square. The Festival was created in part to recognize the importance of tobacco to Logan County and Russellville’s standing as a major one-sucker tobacco market. After pausing during World War II, the Festival was revived in 1957 and has continued as a beloved community tradition ever since. Many of today’s activities still take place around historic Carrico Park Square, connecting present-day celebrations with the Festival’s earliest years.
That connection between our past and present is at the heart of the 2026 theme. Patriots and Pioneers honors those who came before us, including veterans, farmers, business owners, community leaders and families whose hard work helped build Logan County. It also celebrates the freedom and opportunity that allow new generations to continue moving our community forward.
The 2026 Festival offers something for nearly everyone. Events begin September 26 with the Festival Queen’s Pageant and Little Mister & Miss Pageant. Throughout the two-week celebration, the community can also enjoy the Bike Ride, Historic Homes Tours, Hangin’ with the Heroes, Haunted Trolley Tours, Jesse James 5K Walk & Run, Golf Scramble, Road Rally, Historic Residential Walking Tour, Cemetery Tours, Pet Show & Blessing of the Animals, Tobacco Judging, Senior Stroll and Special Needs Awareness Walk.
One of the things that makes the Tobacco & Heritage Festival so special is the variety of ways people can participate. Some come to compete. Others volunteer, enter a float, bring their children to a pageant, walk or run a race, tour a historic property, visit vendors, reconnect with old friends or simply find a favorite spot downtown to watch the parade. Local organizations have also built their own traditions around Festival time, making the celebration much larger than any single event.
Everything leads to Festival Day on Saturday, October 10, when downtown Russellville comes alive. The day includes the Craft Show & Flea Market, the popular reenactment of the 1868 Jesse James Bank Robbery, and the Logan County Tobacco & Heritage Festival Parade, one of the most anticipated traditions of the celebration. The festivities continue into the evening with the Grand Finale Concert on the Square. Food vendors, local businesses, nonprofits, arts and crafts vendors and activities throughout downtown help make Parade Day a true community-wide celebration.
Those who want to do more than watch are encouraged to register early and become part of the Festival. Registration information and applications for events including the parade, pageants, Jesse James 5K, Road Rally, Bike Ride, Senior Stroll, Special Needs Awareness Walk and vendor spaces are available online through the official Tobacco & Heritage Festival website at tobaccofest.org.
