I’m Dr. Kayla Wielgus. I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona before moving to Russellville, Kentucky to be closer to family at 15. My family relocated to Bowling Green shortly after my high school graduation, and we have been here ever since! I am a proud alumnus of Western Kentucky University (Go, Tops!) and achieved my DVM at Lincoln Memorial University in the inaugural class. At WKU I developed a passion for parasitology and epidemiology, which is what spurred me to become a veterinarian. I spent several years practicing in Gallatin, Tennessee commuting to and from Bowling Green before making the decision to look for a practice closer to home. My current passions have broadened to include infectious diseases, surgery, and ultrasound.
Life outside of the clinic revolves around spending time with my family (between my husband, two sons, two German Shorthaired Pointers, and one cat I am quite busy). Often, we can be found cheering on our youngest in taekwondo or soccer, kayaking, hiking, playing disc golf, walking the parks, or just out looking for an adventure. If I am not outdoors, I enjoy reading, puzzles, trying to master gardening, and pretending to be good at crafting.
