Farewell to a Friend Who Lifted Our Community… Wade McCoy

SOKY Happenings and South Central Kentucky lost a good friend September 7 when Wade McCoy of Shop At Home Carpets passed after a brief illness.

Cruising For A Cure every Tuesday night at Bruster's sponsored by J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Chapels and Crematory.

Twila and I met Wade nearly 20 years ago when a business associate mentioned Wade was searching for a new advertising agency to help him with marketing Shop At Home. We met with him and immediately realized he would be great to work with and he has been for the 19+ years we were blessed to have him as a client and friend.

A perfect example of Wade’s friendship and heart… if you read this space you know that Twila had a rather challenging hip replacement surgery a few months ago that left her in a wheelchair for at least 12 weeks. When Wade learned of this… knowing me and my inability to cook even a ham sandwich… he was immediately concerned Twila might starve to death. The next thing we knew we had a DoorDash gift card allowing her to select edible food and have it delivered directly to her hands.

But Wade didn’t just do things like that for friends. We learned early on that when there was a need locally it would often be Wade and the team at Shop At Home Carpets who would step in and help. He wasn’t searching for praise or recognition… Wade just wanted to help our wonderful community and always found a way to do so.

Wade, a Bowling Green native, started Shop At Home Carpets in 1997 and proudly worked with his family and team to steadily grow the business into the success it is today. In addition to many local needs, he was a major supporter of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots and the annual St. Jude Dream Home fundraising project.

Wade was preceded in death by his stepfather, Joe Bill Stubblefiend and his father and mother in-law, Arnold and Linda Abbott. He is survived by his parents, Earnest Truman McCoy and Valda Paulette Peay Stubblefield; his wife Tracey Lynn McCoy; one daughter, Rachel Breann McCoy Miller (Shawn Miller); one son, Joshua Hunter McCoy (Chelsey Rae McCoy); two brothers, Paul Grant McCoy (Michelle), and Stephen Craig McCoy (Gayla); three grandchildren, Riley Miller, Avery Hughes, and Coy Miller; brothers- and sisterin-laws, Melissa Keen (Tim) and Heather Baker (Chuck); and several nieces and nephews.

Our deepest sympathies to the McCoy family and the Shop At Home Carpets team. Wade leaves a hole in our lives and our community and he will be missed.

Wade, you will be deeply missed!

A tribute from Josh McCoy, the McCoy family and the SAHC Team

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved founder and owner of Shop at Home Carpets, Wade McCoy.

Since 1997, he poured his heart into this business and into the Bowling Green community he loved so deeply. But his legacy cannot simply be measured by the business he built or its success. His greatest impact was found in the way he treated people.

He believed in treating every customer, employee, contractor, and friend with respect. He gave generously, helped quietly, led with humility, and never forgot that people mattered more than business. Those values became the foundation of Shop at Home Carpets, and they will remain its foundation for generations to come.

As our family, employees, and community mourn this tremendous loss, we also want to provide reassurance about the future of Shop at Home Carpets.

A transition plan is in place, and Shop at Home Carpets will continue operating and serving our customers and community just as it always has. Our experienced team remains committed to our customers, our projects, and the relationships that have been built over so many years.

We are committed to protecting what he spent his life building and, most importantly, continuing it in the same spirit in which he built it—with integrity, humility, hard work, generosity, and genuine care for people.

To everyone who trusted him, worked alongside him, supported this business, or simply called him a friend, thank you. You were an important part of his life and the story of Shop at Home Carpets.

His presence will be deeply missed. His values will remain. And his legacy will continue.

In remembrance of Wade, we invite all who knew and loved him to join us as we celebrate his life.
