What’s your favorite Roald Dahl book? His adventures can reignite the imagination of even those who have forgotten that gasp of awe each time a new character appears. Far Off Broadway Players seeks to do just that with their upcoming production of James and the Giant Peach, TYA Version, coming to the Historic Plaza Theatre September 21st through the 24th.
This musical production has something for everyone. You don’t need to have a two- and four-year-old to enjoy this show, but what an opportunity for our blossoming young audiences! I have two little girls that age and cannot wait for them to experience the mystique of witnessing this story coming to life, recognizing the characters they have read about and having that connection from the start. I know they will be most entertained by the shenanigans of the nasty mean aunts, Spiker and Sponge, yuck! What’s more, we hope seeing adults play with puppets, singing and dancing, and bringing such characters as the Ladybug or the Earthworm, Centipede, Grasshopper and Spider to life will remind audience members of all ages to keep that childlike sense of adventure, acceptance of others, independence, and belief in oneself through their lifetime.
Auditions for the show are June 5th and 6th and with the exception of James, who can be any gender, we are only casting people 17 years of age and up. If you are interested in auditioning, please visit www.faroffbroadwayplayers.com to sign up for a 10-minute time slot. You will sing 32 bars of a song from any genre of your choosing that highlights your personality and matches the upbeat energy needed for the show. You will read a scene from the show, learn some simple choreography and possibly some vocalizing with the music director. There will be an Audition Packet, containing all necessary materials, available for download on our website beginning May 8th.
Don’t miss out on reigniting that inner child and audition for and come see James and the Giant Peach! Our set design by Cat Fitzgerald and John Yakel is beyond anything we could have imagined, the lighting design by Jed Downing will be breathtaking. The production is directed by Raeanne Brown and produced by Far Off Broadway Players Artistic Director, Paul Glodfelter. Tickets are $15, but if you order 10 or more you can get a group discount. We are so fortunate our production will be held at the Plaza Theatre, 115 East Main Street, Glasgow, KY. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Plaza Theatre at 270-361-2101 or by visiting www.historicplaza.com. And don’t forget, tickets for our annual dinner theatre show at the Cave City Convention Center will be available beginning May 15th. If you have any questions about this or any of our productions, or you just want to follow us, find us on Facebook and Instagram or at www.faroffbroadwayplayers.com.
