Casting Hit Movies: Film and Q&A
If you follow the movie industry news closely, Laray Mayfield might be a name you know, but even if you don’t, the shows whose characters she helped bring to life will definitely pack a familiar punch! From her work on films like Fight Club, the Social Network, and Gone Girl to TV hits like Netflix’s Daredevil and House of Cards (for which she won an Emmy), Mayfield’s casting direction makes her a behind-the-scenes dynamo, and you can meet her this month at The Capitol.
It all started when Mayfield moved from Nashville to Los Angeles in the mid-1980s, when she worked in film production. Soon after her arrival, she became an assistant for American filmmaker David Fincher. At his urging, she delved into casting, first for music videos, and soon after dived more deeply into the movie scene. You can learn more about her 40+ years career in film and TV at The Capitol on Wednesday, August 26. She will be the special guest at a free 6:30pm showing of the blockbuster that put her career on the map and end the night with an audience Q&A afterward. The 1999 film starred Brad Pitt as an alienated young man who joins a brutal club whose members relieve their frustrations through fighting (Rated R). Join us! Tickets will not be required.
Who Killed Laura Palmer? A Murder Mystery Marathon
Since its release in 1990 and in the years since, the mysterious saga following the murky trail of the killing of Laura Palmer has developed a huge fan base, becoming a cult classic. David Lynch and Mark Frost’s murder mystery immediately pulled in television fans with its unique blend of psychological drama and horror, set against iconic scenery of the Pacific Northwest. Both funny and freaky with unexpected twists, Rolling Stone Magazine called it “the most bizarre show on TV.”
Now, for the first time, the series can be shown on the big screen, and The Capitol is here for it! Weekend marathons will showcase the series’ first season, with multiple episodes being shown every Saturday in August.

•Part IV, Saturday, August 29 at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, & 7pm Episodes: The Orchid’s Curse, Demons, Lonely Souls, and Drive with a Dead Girl.
