The Reindeer Farm is bringing back one of its most unique spring events – Smoke & Velvet, happening Saturday, May 30 from 10:30am to 5pm. Now in its second year, this one-day festival offers a rare opportunity to experience the farm outside of the holiday season, with a completely different atmosphere – and a few surprises you won’t see in December.
At the heart of Smoke & Velvet is something truly special: baby reindeer. Guests will have the chance to see them while they’re still young, in a short window that passes quickly. For those looking for a more up-close experience, scheduled reindeer encounters will be available throughout the day.
Spring also brings a striking visual change to the herd. Instead of the fully-formed antlers guests see during the holidays, the reindeer are in velvet – the soft, living tissue that covers their antlers as they grow. It’s a fascinating and lesser-seen stage of their development, making this event feel entirely different from the Christmas season.
Of course, Smoke & Velvet delivers on its name with a strong lineup of food and drink. Five BBQ trucks will be onsite, offering guests the chance to sample a variety of flavors and cast their vote for a festival favorite. In addition to barbecue, guests can enjoy wine, bourbon, refreshing treats, and a curated selection of shopping vendors.
Beyond the food and reindeer, the full farm experience will be open for families to enjoy. Kids can race pedal cars, bounce, take on mini zip lines, or jump into a game of dodgeball. Guests can also visit with the farm’s other animals – including crowd-favorite baby pigs – adding to the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.
Smoke & Velvet stands apart as the only time The Reindeer Farm opens its gates outside of the holiday season, making it a can’t-miss event for both first-time visitors and returning guests.
Whether you’re coming for the barbecue, the baby reindeer, or simply a day on the farm, Smoke & Velvet offers a one-of-a-kind spring experience in South Central Kentucky.
