The Society for Lifelong Learning at WKU (SLL) is celebrating its tenth year of educational programs for adults 50 and better. We are a member-driven organization dedicated to continuing the joy of learning and community. By combining both instruction and social activities, SLL has created a dynamic and rewarding way to meet fellow students and to enjoy outside pastimes such as group travel, walking tours, business place visits and more.
Since 2015, the SLL program has presented hundreds of courses that range from general interest to local issues to academic classes. Have you ever wanted to learn how to write your memoirs or preserve family treasures? Do you want to be able to identify birds and plants in our area? Are you ready to put your estate plan together but have some legal questions? Do you secretly love poetry and want to learn more about it? Are you looking for an opportunity to discuss current events? Does the idea of AI worry you? Have you always wanted to learn how to play bridge, or how to paint in acrylics? These are only some of the topics that SLL is pleased to offer. Students are always impressed with the content and depth of the courses that are assembled by our curriculum committee each semester.
Our classes are held at the Knicely Conference Center located on Nashville Road. There is lots of free parking and full access to the building. Class meetings are on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and the course times are designed to fit in with anyone’s schedule. Other off-site classes/activities are held on Mondays or Fridays.
SLL has two eight-week semesters, spring and fall. Some classes meet once a week for all eight weeks, some meet only one to four times. No tests, grades or papers! Many of our instructors are retired educators from WKU, but we also have dedicated subject matter experts who are more than happy to share their knowledge and expertise with others. Members also present wonderful travel journals about their own adventures.
SLL has introduced exciting travel opportunities, both domestic and international. A trip to Ireland is coming up this fall, and next year a group tour will go to Hawaii, Portugal, and western national parks in the USA.
We invite you to check out the courses coming up this fall! Go to wku.edu/sll and look at more than 40 offerings.
