One Vision, One Community: Local Small Retail & Boutique Owners Come Together for a Hometown Christmas Open House
There is something special about a hometown – where familiar faces become friends, local businesses become gathering places, and the community comes together to create something bigger than any one business could accomplish alone.
Each November, the Glasgow Small Retail & Boutique Association hosts a local shopping event. The association members gather in collaboration all year for planning with one common vision: A memorable Hometown Christmas Open House for Glasgow, Kentucky. President Aundi Thomas shares, “Our vision is to take a holistic view of our small retail and business owners, who are natives of Glasgow, and to create a memorable shopping experience for our community.”
Member-at-Large Lisa Bellamy shares, “Each business brings its own unique style, products, and personality creating a fun opportunity for our shoppers.” Each business involved brings something different to the table. From unique gifts and the perfect outfit, books, vintage treasures, athletic apparel, services, memorable moments with flower arrangements, awards, permanent jewelry or customized items, and locally-created products, every business has its own personality and style. Those differences are exactly what make our local shopping community special.
Secretary Morgan Furlong shares, “By working together and supporting one another, we hope to strengthen our local business community and showcase what we are passionate about.” Rather than competing against one another, these businesses are choosing to work together, promote one another, and create opportunities for shoppers to experience everything Glasgow has to offer.
The goal is bigger than simply increasing sales during the holiday season. It reminds our community that when we shop local, we invest back into our own hometown. Treasurer Beth Wagner shares, “It really is about the community. It is about making the holiday season a true celebration of community, connection and shopping local.” Every purchase made locally helps support a business owner, an employee, a family, a dream, and ultimately the community we all call home.
A Hometown Christmas Open House gives shoppers an opportunity to discover something new at each stop while enjoying the unique atmosphere and personality of every participating business. No two businesses are exactly alike – and that’s what makes the experience special. Member-at-Large Betsy Ann Tracey shares, “We ultimately want to see our community and businesses thrive in our hometown and being a part of building relationships with our customers is really what we love.” The newly-formed local business association is built around a simple vision: One Vision. One Community. One Hometown Christmas.
This association is about building relationships, sharing ideas, encouraging collaboration, and creating a stronger local business community. When one business succeeds, the entire community benefits.
Together, these local businesses are working toward a shared vision: to make shopping local exciting, meaningful, and memorable while creating a Christmas experience our community can be proud of.
This holiday season, we invite you to get out, explore our hometown, meet our local business owners, find unique gifts, support local creators, and experience the heart of our Glasgow, Kentucky.
Because Christmas isn’t just about what’s under the tree.
It’s about the people, the places, and the community that make home feel like home.
Shop Local. Support Local. Celebrate Local.
