WCPL Features Local Author and SOKY Center Spring Market in March; April Announcement: Author, Podcaster Jen Hatmaker!

Warren County Public Library loves showcasing homegrown talent, both local authors and local artisans, and also works to bring nationally-known personalities to Bowling Green to connect with readers and fans of all ages. This month – and next – will feature a number of events like those that you won’t want to miss!

Locally Made Market at SOKY Center Pavilion March 28th.

Local History, True Crime Revealed: Tuesday, March 17, 6pm at The Capitol: An award-winning journalist and author, Wes Swietek’s is a name likely familiar to locals, as he currently serves as managing editor of the Bowling Green Daily News. His first book, The Cemetery Road Murders: The Shocking True Tale of Kentucky’s Murder Mansion, was published in 2020 and detailed the 1948 murders of Dr. Charles and Martha Martin, the love triangle in the middle of it, and the subsequent court cases. This month, Swietek will discuss the stories behind his latest book published at the end of 2025, When the Bluegrass Ran Red, that tells true stories of when crime and corruption ran rampant across Kentucky during the 1960s and 70s, and Bowling Green itself was known as “Little Chicago.” 100 copies of his book will be given away (first-come, first served) at the event, and Swietek will answer audience questions and sign books after the presentation. Register through the library’s calendar of events or The Capitol’s website.

Celebrate Spring at the Locally Made Market: Saturday, March 28, 10am-3pm at SOKY Center: Shoppers will discover unique, locally-made goods at this Easter/spring-themed market under the pavilion at 636 Center Street! Talented makers, artisans, crafters, and authors will showcase one-of-a-kind handmade and handwritten treasures. The outdoor market, free to the public, will be a perfect family outing! Sprinkled throughout the day will be presentations by the talented singers of WKU’s Musical Theatre program, who will be performing a selection of family musicals, and a preview of their upcoming spring musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Easter Bunny will also be on hand to entertain young guests with an egg hunt! Kids will be invited to explore the market and search each booth’s location to uncover hidden eggs. Those who find a Golden Egg will enjoy a sweet prize from Willy Wonka and his friends: free tickets to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory scheduled for April 10 through 12. Plan now to kick off the spring season and join us at SOKY Center, where you’ll experience a vibrant, community-driven, entertaining day of shopping and fun!
