For Sarah Upchurch, APRN, patient care begins with empathy. As a primary care provider at Graves Gilbert Clinic, Sarah believes every patient deserves to feel heard, respected, and genuinely cared for – just as she would want for herself. Her approach is rooted in compassion and understanding, ensuring that each visit feels comfortable, personal, and judgment-free.
“My overall care philosophy is to treat people the way I would want to be treated as a patient,” Sarah shares. “As someone with white coat anxiety, I understand that it can be difficult to discuss health problems and concerns. Having a provider who puts your mind at ease and is willing to listen can make all the difference.”
Care That Covers the Whole Picture
Sarah enjoys treating a wide range of common conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart failure, but she’s especially passionate about mental health care. “It’s such an important part of overall well-being,” she says. “Helping people manage both their physical and mental health is incredibly rewarding.”
Her favorite part of the job is getting to know her patients beyond their medical needs. “I love meeting new patients and learning about them as individuals – not just the condition they come in for,” she explains. “It’s always rewarding to see them come back for follow-ups and hear about what they’ve been doing since their last visit. Developing those professional relationships is one of the best parts of my job.”
Empowering Women Through Preventive Care
When it comes to women’s health, Sarah believes prevention is key. “I don’t think there’s one preventative action that’s most important for women – they’re all important,” she notes. “It’s crucial for women to remember that the screenings they need will change as they age. Staying up to date on those is the best way to maintain overall health and prevent problems before they happen.”
Rooted in Bowling Green
Outside the clinic, Sarah enjoys spending her free time with friends and family – often attending Concerts in the Park, grabbing a bite at Alley Pub and Pizza, or playing a few rounds of pickleball. “I love being part of this community,” she says. “There’s always something fun to do, and the people here make it feel like home.”
At Graves Gilbert Clinic, Sarah brings warmth, expertise, and a genuine connection to every patient she meets – helping them feel comfortable, cared for, and confident in their health journey.
