On Saturday, October 11, 2025 beginning at 3pm CDT, WHINE Up The Hill will be held at The Maple Retreat in Park City, Kentucky. This event gives a unique twist to whining up the hill while you wine up the hill! Admire the beautiful fall landscape of The Maple Retreat as you sip on a glass of wine (if you choose) while climbing the hills. The race route includes paved roads, gravel trails, and the old railroad tracks, now wooded trail, winding through the property. Participants have three options to choose at registration. The run/walk competitive timed race allows runners/walkers to seek a fun challenge of tackling the hill, soaking in the vineyard views, and enjoying the wine stops. The non-competitive untimed sip and stroll is a leisurely walking option on the same course as the competitive event but lets you enjoy the beautiful vineyard scenery and tasting stations at a relaxed pace. And finally, the kids grape gallop is a fun dash for younger runners! Let them burn off some energy in a safe, shorter course that runs in a looping course around the hilltop. This event is open to participants aged six to 12 years old who will receive a shirt and finishers medal. Wine, water, and other beverages will be available, as well as a long-sleeve race shirt and commemorative wine glass for participants 21 years old and older. This event benefits an amazing local organization, Hope House Ministries, and supports their incredible work in our community. Hope House Ministries exists to alleviate physical and spiritual poverty through gospel restoration.
Bowling Green’s longest running marathon is bg262, The Race to Beat MS! This event is always the first Sunday in November, and will run on Sunday, November 2, 2025. There are four distances offered: bg6000 (3.7 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles), marathon (26.2 miles), and the FREE kids race, bgKIDS 26.2. The marathon course is a two-loop course of 13.1 miles through downtown Bowling Green and the campus of Western Kentucky University. The marathon is certified as a Boston Qualifying Course and awarded as a Road Runners Club of America State Championship Event. The bg262 half marathon route is the same route – only once! If you’re not a long-distance runner but want to push yourself farther, the bg6000 is the race for you! With a distance of 3.7 miles, you can say you’ve gone farther than a 5K. The bgKIDS 26.2 is a free event for all children ages 12 and younger. This race is scheduled for Saturday, November 1 at the Bowling Green Ballpark. Children will race two laps around the concourse, receive a finishers medal and swag, and post-race pizza! Accomplish your goals as you cross the Start and Finish Lines, enjoy the beautiful fall foliage, and the exciting and energetic water and aid stations along the way. This race runs in memory of Susan B. Riherd, sister of Race Director Lilly Riherd, who lived with multiple sclerosis. For 14 years, bg262 and half marathon has raised money through sponsorship, donations, and race registrations for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
