Area families will have one more chance this season to enjoy a movie night under the stars at the Bowling Green Ballpark. Community Education’s 9th Annual Blockbusters at the Ballpark wraps up its summer movie series on Saturday, October 18, with a showing of the smash hit WICKED on the biggest screen in Bowling Green.
The event has become a beloved tradition for families across Warren County, combining blockbuster entertainment with the unique charm of watching a movie inside the Hot Rods’ stadium. With the theme “movies, memories, and the magic of the ballpark,” the series has brought hundreds of families together each summer while raising funds to support local programs.
For this year’s finale, gates will open at 5pm, and families are encouraged to arrive early for pre-movie fun. At 5:30pm, children are invited to participate in a costume contest, with prizes awarded for the most creative outfits. The movie begins at 6pm. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the rain date has been set for Saturday, November 1.
As with every Blockbusters at the Ballpark showing, admission is FREE. Donations are gratefully accepted and go directly toward funding Community Education’s wide range of programs, all of which benefit Warren County and area residents. These programs include before- and after-school care, Teen Angel holiday assistance for teens, Safe Seats | Safe Kids car seat safety inspections, summer activities for children, enrichment opportunities for adults, and much more.
Before the lights go down, families will have the opportunity to take advantage of several kid-friendly features inside the stadium. The playground and carousel will be open, the outfield will be available for tossing a football or Frisbee, and concession stands will be serving up movie snacks and drinks. Seating is flexible: attendees can bring a blanket and spread out on the outfield (no chairs allowed) or settle into the stadium’s box seats.
Organizers remind attendees to plan ahead for the stadium’s clear bag policy, which will be enforced during the event.
For Community Education, Blockbusters at the Ballpark is more than just a movie night – it’s the organization’s major annual fundraiser. Every dollar raised stays local and helps fund programming that makes a difference for children, teens, and families across the area.
The event is made possible thanks to generous sponsorships. WNKY returns as the Diamond Sponsor, and Woodmen Life serves as the Platinum Sponsor. We are also grateful to many other community partners whose support ensures the event remains free and accessible to all, including the Bowling Green Hot Rods, Graves Gilbert Clinic, Industrial Electrical Contractors, Houchens Food Group, Atmos Energy, CoreTech LLC, Casey’s General Store, Charles M. Moore Insurance, and BGMU.
With its combination of community spirit, kid-friendly fun, and a blockbuster finale, this year’s showing of WICKED is expected to draw a large crowd. Families are encouraged to mark their calendars, bring their blankets, and get ready for an evening of magic under the lights at Bowling Green Ballpark.
